Thank you all for making the MLK Service Day Clean up a grand success. We had 25 people join us from the parish, from Oakland Military Institute, and neighbors who sign up through the city of Oakland portal. We were able to collect over 18 bags of trash and some of the volunteers spent their time sweeping up the glass that was in the street and sidewalk along 40th street next to the church. Thank you for your participation and prayers. We all do it together, for we are the ‘Beloved Community’ as Dr. King would say. — Fr. Jack
We are in need of previously used empty bags that our parish family members can use to bring home the many goodies that we have available here on Sundays. Thanks!!!
As you know, February is Black History Month. We will be celebrating in various ways throughout the month. The main celebration will be at the Masses on the weekend of the 24th and 25th. At those Masses our guest speaker will be Toinette M. Eugene, PH. D who is well known for her teaching, presentations, and publications in Black Catholic Theology.
The Parish Council is an important decision-making body for our parish. Currently, we are looking for one to two new members to help us make decisions for the present and future of Sacred Heart. The meeting commitment is one evening a month for about 90 minutes. Perhaps the Spirit is calling you? If so, the Body of Christ here at Sacred Heart can really use your help!
